Seeing a dental hygienist will help to take care of your teeth, keeping them healthy as well as looking their best. They will perform scaling and polishing and offer advice on how to best maintain your smile at home.
What do dental hygienists do?
Dental hygienists are principally concerned with preventative dental care and treating gum disease. They do this by professionally cleaning your teeth by removing plaque and tartar, to enhance the care that you do yourself at home.
Can dental hygienists help with teeth sensitivity?
Tooth sensitivity can have lots of different causes, but seeing a hygienist can play a crucial role in addressing and alleviating teeth sensitivity by examining the teeth thoroughly, eliminating irritants and making home care recommendations.
How often should I see a hygienist?
Your dentist will work with you to advise on the frequency of your hygienist appointments depending on your individual needs. However, typically it’s recommended that you have one cleaning appointment every six months.
